PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This Unit Standard is intended for people who are or who wish to be employed in international commerce. The purpose of this Unit Standard is to provide individuals with the opportunity to apply numeric skills to transactions that form part of the international trade cycle.

Individuals who are credited with this Unit Standard will be able to perform calculations that are applicable within the context of international trade.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
XX18: Perform Basic Calculations
NQF Level 3 Numeracy 3

UNIT STANDARD RANGE
Learners accredited with this Unit Standard expected to demonstrate applied competence with the use of a calculator. Arithmetic techniques covered by this Unit Standard are restricted to those applicable in the field of international trade in which numerical formulae are largely set. Learners are therefore not expected to develop their own formulae.

Calculations referred to require application of the basic arithmetic principles, and more complex concepts such as calculus are excluded. Learners are expected to complete accurate calculations under extreme time pressure.

Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria:

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1
The learner must demonstrate the ability to consider a range of options.
OUTCOME NOTES
The learner must demonstrate the ability to consider a range of options, make decisions about and evidence performance around each of the specific outcomes.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
1. Calculate proportions for the purpose of allocating costs in international trade transactions involving a number of commodities.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
2. Apply percentage calculations in pricing negotiations, in order to determine their viability.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
3. Convert foreign currencies as part of the landed and export costings calculations.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
4. Calculate interest on amounts owing and owed to the business for the purposes of cash flow management.
ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
This includes calculating compound interest

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
5. Calculate landed and export costings using given variables.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6
6. Perform break-even analysis.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7
7. Perform a critical path analysis as part of international project management.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS
1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited by the relevant ETQA.
3. Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.

UNIT STANDARD ESSENTIAL EMBEDDED KNOWLEDGE
ESSENTIAL EMBEDDED KNOWLEDGE:

The learners can understand, explain and apply:

1. Proportional allocations
2. Percentages
3. Foreign currency conversions
4. Interest calculations
5. Landed and export costings
6. Break-even analysis
7. Critical-path analysis

Critical Cross-field Outcomes (CCFO):

UNIT STANDARD CCFO ORGANISING
1. Organise and manage oneself and one`s activities responsibly and effectively

UNIT STANDARD CCFO COLLECTING
2. Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information,eg,

UNIT STANDARD CCFO COMMUNICATING
3. Communicate effectively using visual, mathematical, and/or language skills in the modes of written and/or oral presentation,eg,

UNIT STANDARD ASSESSOR CRITERIA
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

A composite statement of outcomes which expresses applied competence in the particular component of practice

Outcomes will be judged by whether the learner can :
1. Select and apply the correct calculation and/or formulae for the context of a commercial transaction, meeting time and accuracy requirements
2. Demonstrate ability to perform specific commercial arithmetic calculations such as
! Proportions
! Percentages
! Currency conversions
! Interest (including compound interest)
! Landed and export costings
! Break-even analysis
! Critical-path analysis

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS UNIT STANDARD:
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
