PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

This Unit Standard is intended for people who require the skills and knowledge necessary to arrive at motivated solutions to the legal problems that are more usually encountered in relationships between freight forwarders and their clients.

Individuals who are credited with this Unit Standard will be able to provide advise to forwarders and their clients as to their liabilities and responsibilities in terms of the Forwarding Standard Trading Conditions (F.S.T.C.).

UNIT STANDARD RANGE

1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited by the relevant ETQA.
3. Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.

3. The application of the SAAFF standard trading conditions in the overall international trading environment with particular regard to their relationship to carriers` conditions of carriage, house bills of lading and house air waybills.

Outcomes will be judged by whether the learner can:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the F.S.T.C. and the conditions of other service providers and statutory bodies within the international transport chain
2. Advise forwarders as to their obligations and liabilities in respect of specific claims in terms of F.S.T.C. conditions.
3. Advise importers and exporters as to their obligations and liabilities in respect of claims against forwarders in terms of the F.S.T.C. conditions.
