PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners acquiring this standard will be learning towards obtaining a national qualification or are working within a road transport environment, where acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to learners job, or chances of finding employment.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Overseeing the loading of vehicles
  • Securing the load of the vehicle prior to the trip
  • Securing the load on the vehicle during the trip
  • Securing the load on the vehicle after the trip and when off loading. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard / qualification will have demonstrated competence against numeracy, literacy, supervision and operational & Management skills at NQF Level 1 as well as communication skills at NQF Level 2. 

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Oversee the loading of vehicles. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. The type and content of the load to be transported is identified. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The most appropriate method and order of loading is correctly selected. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The total bulk of the load to be loaded is identified and established. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The full load loaded on the vehicle is confirmed. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. No individual illegally gains access to the loading bay. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Secure the load of the vehicle prior to the trip. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. The vehicle is locked or the load is secured prior to departure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The vehicle is parked at a safe place or monitored by security measures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The vehicle is inaccessible to individuals not involved in the loading activity. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Secure the load on the vehicle during the trip. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. The implications and responsibilities of securing the load of the vehicle are explained to the driver. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The vehicle is always parked at a safe place, determined prior to the trip. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The pre-determined route plan is explained to the driver. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Secure the load on the vehicle after the trip and when off loading.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. The destination is arrived at as planned. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Individuals are denied access that should not be there at the off loading point. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The full load delivered upon arrival is confirmed as per the pre trip compiled way bill. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The full load is delivered and a signature is obtained from the recipient. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. Incidents are reported immediately through to appropriate levels of management. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA

    2. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    3. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA

    4. Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
