PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:

Shutting down and performing basic cleaning and maintenance on a filter rod maker to ensure readiness for further production 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have:
  • Literacy and numeracy at NQF level 1
  • Knowledge of the application of quality control on filter rods
  • Knowledge of preparing a filter rod maker for production
  • Introduction to the Tobacco Processing Industry 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard with minimal supervision, but with access to work-site procedures and operating instructions
    The scope of this unit standard deals with the shut-down of the filter rod maker after the production of filter rods and before scheduled cleaning
    Materials include, but are not limited to, filter paper, adhesives, acetate tow, cleaning utensils and printers ink
    Components include, but are not limited to, cut-off knives, garniture tape, spray booth brushes, ledgers, machine rollers, suction fan filter, garniture folders and cooling-bar
