PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for all persons who have to screen candidates and refer them to other officials for handling of their cases. The person credited with this Unit Standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of the process of screening and referrals.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the purpose of Screening of Referrals
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the application and term "Jurisdiction"
  • Conducting the screening of a referral
  • Completing the screening of a referral

    1. The major purpose for the Screening of Referrals is explained with examples.

    2. The reason why the various factors that need to be considered in the screening of referrals is explained with examples.

    Demonstrate an understanding of the application and term "Jurisdiction".

    1. The application and interpretation of the term "Jurisdiction" is explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The various dispute resolution bodies and relevant statutes that affect jurisdiction are listed and an explanation is given of how the term "Jurisdiction" applies to each. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Conduct the screening of a referral.

    1. A referral is identified for screening and the appropriate administrative processes are applied relevant to the case. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. A checklist is compiled incorporating the criteria used for screening and attached to the relevant referral.

    Complete the screening of a referral.

    1. The completed checklist with referral is produced for verification to the line manager/SCMO.

    2. The parties to the dispute are advised of the next process and appropriate administrative processes are completed correctly.
