PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of the learning for this Unit Standard is that learners are able to pack and unpack equipment, material and tools in a way that meets health and safety, live event and technical production industry requirements. When credited, the learner`s applied competence will be to safely pack and unpack equipment, material and tools according to manufacturers` recommendations and industry norms and standards. The learner will follow acceptable procedures, and use appropriate materials, to allow for efficient packing and unpacking of the equipment, material and tools required for live events and technical productions.

Recognition or Prior Learning (RPL) must be applied should the learner provide sufficient evidence that he/she has attained the competencies outlined in this Unit Standard.

Upon successful completion of this Unit Standard the learner is capable of:
  • Collating equipment, material and tools and their respective ancillary equipment into complete units.
  • Selecting suitable containers required for the equipment, material and tools.
  • Packing and unpacking equipment, material and tools into and out of industry-specific containers taking into account the nature of the equipment, material and tools and using and retaining for later use appropriate packing equipment, material and tools as required.
  • Labelling containers with the relevant information required, and reading and understanding the information on container labels.
  • Dispatching containers to loading bays, relevant site locations as stipulated on labels, and designated suitable holding areas.
  • Securing containers to prevent damage and injury.
  • Effecting general maintenance on equipment, material and tools limited to storage, cleaning and preparation. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    The learning assumed to be in place prior to the learner attempting this Unit Standard is:
  • Numeracy and Literacy skills equivalent to NQF 3.
  • A working knowledge of health and safety as required by the OH&S Act as amended.
  • Working at height practice and safety.
  • Safe operation of scissor and boom access equipment.

    The application chosen must be applied in all learning towards all Unit Standards attempted for the qualification.

    General maintenance on equipment, material and tools is limited to storage, cleaning and preparation.
