PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard will be able to provide clients with a service to style hair, using various techniques. The learner will be able to perform a finger wave using their fingers and a comb. They will also perform pin curls, blow dries, roller settings and tonging hairstyling techniques.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing client and workstation for the relevant service to be performed
  • Performing a full head of finger waves using the fingers and comb only
  • Performing a full head of volume, flat and indentation pincurls
  • Performing a blow dry
  • Demonstrating an understanding of roller setting techniques
  • Demonstrating tonging techniques 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against the unit standards in mathematical, computer, numerical and communication studies at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.
