PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard will be able to identify, select and maintain hairdressing equipment and equipment to enhance the life and use of these tools and equipment. It will assist the learner to keep their tools and equipment in first class condition

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying and explaining hairdressing equipment and hand held tools.
  • Cleaning hairdressing equipment and hand held tools.
  • Maintaining hairdressing equipment and hand held tools.
  • Storage and safe keeping of equipment and tools. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Learners assessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against unit standards in mathematical, numerical and communication studies at NQF Level 1 or equivanlent.
  • Learners assessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against unit standard: Demonstrate an understanding of the personal care sector.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Cleaning and maintenance procedures for electrical equipment are described in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, legislative requirements and optimum performance and safety requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Cutting equipment is cleaned and maintained in accordance with manufactures instructions and legislative requirements, to ensure life span of the equipment. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Maintain hairdressing equipment and hand held tools.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    All other equipments are maintained to promote life span and optimum performance.

    Make sure all electrical appliances are switch off before unplugging from wall plug.

    All leads or cords must be correctly stored after use as per worksite requirements.

    Electrical appliances are in accordance with organisational procedures.

    Safety precautions are followed throughout the storage procedures.
