PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit is for relevant personnel to ensure the safe protection of people, assets and property by enforcing effective access\egress control measures.

Benefit for society of this unit standard is that the person who completes this will contribute to safety in society.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Apply effective hand over and take over of access\egress control site.
  • Operate and maintain access\egress control site effectively and safely.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of searching people, vehicles, goods and articles.
  • Conclude operations at an access\egress control site.

    This unit standard applies to persons competently operating an access control point to ensure the safe protection of people, assets and property by enforcing effective access\egress control measures.

    3. Site-specific equipment are operated in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturers specifications.

    4. Unauthorised & authorised persons, vehicles, goods & articles are dealt with as per workplace procedures and relevant legal requirements.

    1. Knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, policies and regulations required for the lawful searching, detention and/or seizure of persons, transportation, goods and/or articles are applied. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Persons, transportation, goods and/or articles are searched using all relevant methods and equipment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. Persons, vehicles, goods and/or articles identified as being unauthorised are being detained/arrested/denied access/escorted/confiscated/impounded and handed over to relevant authorities. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Completed relevant documentation verifies operational and legal correctness of search/seizure/detention and/or handing over of suspected persons, vehicles, goods and/or articles to relevant authorities.

    Conclude operations at an access/egress control site.

    Legal requirements must include:
  • Criminal Procedure act, Trespass act , Road Traffic act , Access to Public Premises act , Health and Safety Environmental act , Fencing act, NKP act, Civil Aviation offences act. Firearms Control act, General Law Amendment act , SIRA act and other relevant legislation and regulations specific to site.

    Emergency must include:
  • Any potentionally dangerous and/or disruptive act or condition.

    Effectiveness must include:
  • Current, signed and authentic.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Document and submit all relevant reports.

    2. Transferring of orders and instructions to the next shift ensures effective access control.

    3. Debriefing on incidents occurred during the present shift improves operational effectiveness.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the POSLEC SETA ETQA/and any other body with whom a MOU was entered into.
    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the POSLEC SETA ETQA/and any other body with whom a MOU was entered into by SAQA.
    3. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the POSLEC ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the POSLEC SETA ETQA/ and any other body with whom a MOU was entered into.
