PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners who coordinate and supervise the activities of officials in the field of safety in society, especially in the policing environment

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of members
  • Conduct vehicle inspections
  • Conduct general inspections

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the safety in society environment and more specifically within the border control discipline by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the safety in society environment.

    This unit standard applies to persons who coordinate and supervise activities of officials that will allow them to take decisions independently.

    Supervise and coordinate activities of members.

    Members' activities and duties are coordinated and supervised during the execution of duties and activities according to the duty plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Key aspects in the execution of duties are clearly defined according to the duty plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The reporting structures are defined and explained to members according to organizational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The period for which delegated responsibilities are valid are communicated to members according to the duty plan.

    Decision making authority is allocated according to the delegation of powers.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Vehicles used by members checked if they conform to the provisions of the Road Traffic Act and relevant legislations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Inspections are conducted on vehicles used by members and damages are reported and repaired according to organizational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Logbooks of vehicles used by members are inspected for correctness according to organizational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The duties of a driver are explained in terms of relevant legislation.

    Registers pertaining to the policing environment are inspected regularly for completeness according to organizational procedures.

    Pocketbooks/dairies are inspected regularly according to organizational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Centre and premises are inspected according to organizational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    All equipment in used are inspected within the centre and premises. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Personal equipment used by members is inspected. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Notes are compiled on the inspections according to organizational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    Clear guidelines and instructions of an inspection are endorsed by a signature by the inspecting official. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 8 
    Dates for feedback in respect to progress are clearly communicated.

    Further instructions of an inspection are provided on entries that need attention according to organizational procedures. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
