PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit is for learners in the field of safety in society who establish and maintain community forum structures in the field of safety in society especially the policing environment
A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Establish a community-policing forum (CPF)
  • Mobilise the community against crime
  • Network with relevant role-players and stakeholders

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the safety in society environment and more especially within the policing environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the safety in society environment.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    This unit standard applies to persons coordinating and supervising officials with a level of authority that will allow them to take decisions independently. 

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Establish a community-policing forum (CPF). 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Relevant stakeholders are consulted in the community in order to establish the community-policing forum according to the relevant legislation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The guidelines are provided for the establishment of an executive committee that manages the community-policing forum. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Workshops are held to ensure that all the participants are educated regarding the functioning of the community-policing forum. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    It is ensured that the identified policing official is an active participant within the executive committee of the community-policing forum according to the relevant guidelines and legislation 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Community-policing forum substructures are established in conjuction with community members. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Mobilise the community against crime.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A community profile is compiled in accordance with the profile of the local community. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Crime awareness campaigns are conducted according to the identified need. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The members of the community are mobilized to become part of the community policing structures within the community. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Crime information is distributed on a regular basis.

    Network with relevant role-players and stakeholders. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Meetings are held regularly with the Government departments such as (South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Protection Services, Metro Policing, Traffic Departments) and community structures to discuss crime concerns. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Joint crime prevention operations are planned with the assistance of the identified role-players and stakeholders. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Interpersonal skills are developed to ensure the success of the networking within the community. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA
    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA
    3. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures
