PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard will be useful to learners who wish to gain a basic understanding of the message and role of biblical prophecy and their relevance to the world today.

Learners credited with this Unit Standard are able to:
  • Describe some of the situations that gave rise to biblical prophecy
  • Summarise the content of a selection of biblical prophetic books
  • Identify key issues in the church and world today to which the content of some of the prophetic books may be applicable and explain the relevance of their teaching

    Learners are assumed to be competent in Communication at NQF Level 1. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The following scope and context applies to the whole Unit Standard:
  • Background and content of selected Biblical prophetic books
  • Application of the content of selected Biblical prophetic books to current issues and situations

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Describe some of the situations that gave rise to the work of the Biblical prophets. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    May include abuse of political power, economic exploitation, false or misleading preaching, injustice and corruption in national leadership. At least four such instances to be described, and the prophets associated with those situations to be named. Old Testament and New Testament prophets to be included. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The situations that gave rise to the work of the prophets are described in relation to the actual historical, economic, cultural and social conditions of the period. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Links are made between the situations and the books which are named. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Summarise the content of specified Biblical prophetic texts. 
    OUTCOME NOTES 
    Summarise the content of specified Biblical prophetic texts, making reference to the context in which they were written. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Must include both Old Testament and New Testament prophets and their contexts.
