PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the elective category of the NQF Level 5 National Diploma in CTFL Mechanician Processes. Learners who are assessed competent with this unit standard are able to identify and react to faults and conduct running maintenance to advanced clothing machinery. Learners are also able to strip and assemble, diagnose and conduct repairs, conduct overhauls and design and innovate advanced clothing machinery and evaluate characteristics of a new range of machines. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained the National Certificate in CTFL Mechanician Processes at NQF Level 4 or equivalent qualification. The required qualification at NQF Level 4 in Machine Repair and Overhauls.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Advanced clothing machinery is cleaned externally, all and any connection lines are disconnected and covered, and the machinery is placed in the appropriate place for overhaul in accordance with production plans and specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Advanced clothing machinery is dismantled, cleaned and components are checked for wear and damage and assessed for further use in the manner prescribed by the manufacturer. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Components unsuitable for further use are replaced with approved replacement parts, and / or faults are rectified according to manufacturers specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Advanced clothing machinery is reassembled following the procedure prescribed by the manufacturer.

    The overhauled machinery is installed in the workplace following the specified requirements.
