  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE
This Unit Standard covers heater cables and cable mat under-floor heating systems

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria:

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1
    Estimate material requirements for room.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Measure room to establish dimensions, irrespective of shape of room

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Estimate thermodynamics of room to guide heating requirements for the location

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Determine quantity and approximate size of furniture in order to plan the heating requirements

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Estimate under-floor heating material requirements for the job

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2
Prepare for installation of under-floor heating components.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Confirm placement of furniture to plan the layout of the under-floor heating

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Plan for the placement of controls, thermostat and power connection for the efficient and effective operation of the under-floor heating system

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Substrate is prepared and ready for the installation of under-floor heating

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Suitable primer is applied where required, according to manufacturers specifications

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
Pre-installation resistance of cabling is assessed and appropriate remedial action is taken where necessary

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3
    Install under-floor heating components.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Cable spacing is marked out on floor to ensure optimal heating

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Cable mat or cabling is run, adjusted where required and secured to ensure optimal heating

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Post-installation resistance of cabling is assessed and appropriate remedial action is taken where necessary

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Cables are covered with levelling screed where appropriate

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4
    Perform post installation follow up.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Under-floor heating system is powered up and functioning of system confirmed to be fully functional, after a suitable period post-installation, to ensure materials are fully matured to withstand power up

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Maximum and minimum temperatures are set according to agreement with client

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Client is briefed on operation of system to ensure full comprehension and use of system by client

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Any problems are accurately detected and appropriate remedial action is taken

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS UNIT STANDARD:
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
