PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to wire an apparatus case according to plans and specifications by applying signalling engineering practice. This will ensure the availability of correctly wired apparatus cases that contribute in part to a reliable railway signalling system, safe and efficient train operations and effective rail transportation.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The credit value assigned to this unit standard is appropriate because performance must be carried out:
    1. In a controlled environment.
    2. Within a specific time.
    3. At a field site or in a workshop (might or might not include overhead traction equipment).
    4. Under simulated or actual operational conditions.

    This standard covers the wiring of a typical apparatus case as used in the railway signalling environment.

    This standard excludes the cabling and installation of an apparatus case.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Plan and procure the resources required to perform the wiring of an apparatus case safely and according to plan and specifications.
