PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
  • Conducting a cigarette brand change-over on a packer to ensure the readiness of a cigarette packer to pack a different brand of cigarette. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have:
  • Literacy and numeracy at NQF level 2
  • Knowledge of the application of quality control on the final product
  • Knowledge of preparing a cigarette packer for production
  • Introduction to the Tobacco Processing Industry 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard with minimal supervision, but with access to work-site procedures and operating instructions.

    The scope of this unit standard deals with a cigarette brand change-over on the cigarette packer for the packing of cigarettes.

    Material includes, but is not limited to, cigarette brand, metalised paper, stamps, adhesives, blanks and shoulder board.

    Equipment includes, but is not limited to, adhesive pot brushes, adhesive applicators, folders, code blocks, drying drum, detectors, conveyer belts and suction cups.
