PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit is for learners in the field of policing who conducts an enquiry docket investigation in respect of vehicles.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Conduct investigations in respect of an unidentified vehicle.
  • Conduct investigations in respect of the issuing of the South African Police Identification Number (SAPVIN).
  • Conduct investigations in respect of vehicle manufacturers, importers and builders (MIB'S).
  • Conduct investigations in respect of vehicle related crime scenes (eg. Chop Shops operations).
  • Conduct investigations in respect of potential vehicle related crime scenes (eg. Second hand vehicle dealers, scrapyards, panel beaters, etc.).
  • Conduct investigations in respect of vehicle identification during operations (e.g. roadblocks, border posts, etc.).
  • Conduct investigations in respect of individuals requests to assist with vehicle identification (eg. vehicle manufacturer enquiries, standby duties, etc.).

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the safety in society environment and more especially within the policing environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the safety in society environment.

    Conduct investigation in respect of an unidentified vehicle. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A physical examination of the unidentified vehicle is conducted (etch included) according to relevant legislation and organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The entire vehicle registration history is obtained (at the registering authority) according to relevant legislation and organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    All relevant documentation is obtained according to relevant legislation and organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Statements are obtained/submitted according to relevant legislation and organizational policies and procedures.

    Enquiries on relevant vehicle related computer systems are conducted according to relevant legislation and organizational policies and procedures.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.

    The standard describes competent performance in doing physical techniques that will enhance the candidates job performance, and lay down the criteria by which competence should be judged, as well as the range of circumstances in which competence should be demonstrated.

    Integrated assessment methods and tools will allow the candidate to demonstrate that he has acquired knowledge of and can safely and effectively apply competence identified in this unit standard.
