PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners in the field of investigation who administer the case docket process flow

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Update computerized and/or manual system(s)
  • Keep the complainant informed of progress/process of the case
  • File/record information under the correct clip of a case docket.
  • Present/submit case docket for inspection or closure.

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the safety in society environment and more especially within the investigation environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the safety in society environment.

    Keep the complainant informed of progress/process of the case.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The complainant is visited and contacted and informed about contact details as well as the process and progress of the case after case is assigned according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The need is established to determine whether the complainant has any further information according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The statement of the complainant is retaken if the information in the first statement is insufficient according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The complainant is visited and contacted during the investigation in order to report progress on the investigation according to organizational policies and procedures.

    The complainant is informed of the progress and process updating as well as the final outcome of the case according to organizational policies and procedures.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    All documentation or material is filed that can be used as evidence in court under the 'A' clip according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    All correspondence, as well as documentation that do not belong under the 'A' clip is filed, under the 'B' clip according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The investigation diary is used under the 'C' clip to record all investigation activities according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Present and submit case docket for inspection or closure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The case docket is submitted for inspection to the relevant role-players within a specific time frame according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The case docket is submitted to the relevant role-player for closure, when the Prosecutor declines to prosecute, or the case is unfounded, or the suspect is undetected or case is finalized in court according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The case docket is submitted to the relevant role-player after court appearance for guidance or closure according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    All queries and instructions provided by the relevant role-players are complied with and rectified according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    A certificate is submitted in the investigation dairy to the relevant role-player for closure according to organizational policies and procedures.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.

    The standard describes competent performance in doing physical techniques that will enhance their job performance, and lay down the criteria by which competence should be judged, as well as the range of circumstances in which competence should be demonstrated.
