PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to install and dismantle the physical elements of an exhibition. The unit standard contributes to the learning of those who want to develop a career path in the Art, Craft and Design sector, and contributes to greater levels of production and quality in this industry.

    It is assumed that learners are competent in Communication, NQF Level 4.

  • Exhibitions are held in many different contexts/environments and these may include craft market stands, trade shows, museums, galleries, libraries, other visitor attractions, theme parks, corporate events and festivals.
  • Exhibitions may be temporary, permanent or travelling.
  • Exhibition documentation may include site plans, floor plans, event orders or work instructions.
  • The brief describes and specifies the work to be completed; is usually prepared by commissioning body or organization; may be written, diagrammatic, visual or verbal.
  • Specifications would be articulated in the brief and may refer to purpose, client needs, dimensions and style.
  • Parameters or constraints may refer to cost, material characteristics, timeframe, legal considerations and technology.
  • Exhibition requirements may include displays, interactive elements, furniture and furnishings, props, backdrops, special effects, murals and full-scale environments.
  • Tools and equipment may include hand tools, power tools, lighting equipment, electronic devises and ladders.

    Any on-site construction is completed and/or organised in accordance with installation requirements, safety and licensing requirements.

    Exhibition elements are installed/dismantled in accordance with exhibition requirements, available floor plans and safety/security requirements.

    Physical elements are packed, unpacked, moved and handled in accordance with agreed plans and within scope of individual responsibility.

    Safe handling techniques are used throughout installation/dismantling to avoid injury or damage.

    The integrity of physical elements is respected, and prompt action is taken in the event of accidents and is accurately documented as required.

    Work areas are cleared and cleaned in accordance with organisational procedures, safety and environmental requirements.

    Elements are safely returned to appropriate locations in accordance with exhibition documentation and plans.

  • Assessment of learner achievements takes place at providers accredited by a relevant ETQA (RSA, 1998b) for the provision of programs that result in the outcomes specified for this unit standard.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with a relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with a relevant ETQA.
