PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to plan and oversee the installation and dismantling of physical exhibition elements. The unit standard contributes to the learning of those who want to develop a career path in the Art, Craft and Design sector, and contributes to greater levels of production and quality in this industry.

    It is assumed that learners are competent in Communication, NQF Level 4.

  • Exhibitions are held in many different contexts/environments and these may include craft market stands, trade shows, museums, galleries, libraries, other visitor attractions, theme parks, corporate events and festivals.
  • Exhibitions may be temporary, permanent or travelling.
  • Exhibition documentation may include site plans, floor plans, event orders or work instructions.
  • Specialist external assistance may include designers, artists, preparators, printers, conservators, builders, electricians or other trades people.
  • Specifications would be articulated in the brief and may refer to purpose, client needs, dimensions and style.
  • Parameters or constraints may refer to cost, material characteristics, timeframe, legal considerations and technology.
  • Exhibition requirements may include displays, interactive elements, furniture and furnishings, props, backdrops, special effects, murals and full-scale environments.
  • Tools and equipment may include hand tools, power tools, lighting equipment, electronic devises and ladders.

    Inventory checks are completed to determine availability of physical resources.

    The need for additional resources is identified and organised or ordered in accordance with organisational procedures and relevant budgetary guidelines.

    The need for specialist or external assistance is identified and organised in accordance with organisational procedures and relevant budgetary guidelines.

    The processes to ensure that work was carried out in accordance with instructions, time and budgetary constrains are monitored, accurately.

    Storage and security of exhibition elements, including valuable items and any hazardous materials are appropriate.

    Complete exhibition reports.

    Relevant reports and documentation on exhibition installation or dismantling are compiled which are comprehensive for future reference.
