PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to set up production lines and equipment in order to ensure optimal efficiency for the craft manufacturing process. The unit standard contributes to the competence of those who want to develop a career path in the Art, Craft and Design sector, and contributes to greater levels of production and quality in this industry. Learners competent in this unit standard will generally improve and increase production quality of craft products. The learner will also be able to improve, maintain and set up tools and equipment used in the production of craft products to increase general productivity.

Learners credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Plan tools, equipment and production layout.
  • Set up equipment for craft production purposes.
  • Monitor equipment and product line indicators.
  • Correct product or process problems.
  • Document all activities and results.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
It is assumed that learners are competent in Communication, NQF Level 4.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE
The following statements provide a general guide to the scope and complexity of the competence expected of the learner:
  • The learner is able to set up a range of machines for production purposes.
  • The context conditions under which a learner is expected to perform include shift work, time pressure, and accuracy requirements.
  • The learner performs under minimum supervision.

This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
