PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of the high-level business processes within an organisation.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the value chain and high-level business processes of the organisation
  • Identify the high-level business processes of an organisation using appropriate visual presentation techniques
  • Define the interfaces between business processes
  • Understand how the business processes support the value chain
  • Understand how business processes affect business performance 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • End user Computing at NQF Level 3.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.
  • Communication skills at NQF level 3. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • This unit standard is meant to give learners an understanding of the connection between business enabling systems and the processes they support.
  • Learners are expected to gain an awareness of the manner in which Business Systems can add value in a business environment.
  • This unit standard alone will not give learners comprehensive technical expertise in ERP or Business systems.
  • The unit standard relies on the learners awareness of some aspect of the business functionality, be it through direct experience or observation.
  • High level business processes identifies sufficient information to understand the process without elaborating on the activity level.

    The high-level business processes within an organisation are identified using appropriate visual presentation techniques.

    The relationship between the 'value chain' and the high-level business processes is explained with examples. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Define the interfaces between business processes.

    The links between the various business processes are clarified in order to demonstrate their interdependence. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The interfaces between business processes are defined in terms of the links in order to illustrate the nature of the interdependencies.

    Understand how the business processes support the 'value chain'.

    An explanation is given of how business processes contribute to the 'value chain' using two actual examples of how this is achieved in practice.

    The ways in which the organisation's business processes affect business performance are explained with examples.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed against this unit standard (including through RPL) may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA), or one with an appropriate memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or one with an appropriate MOU with the relevant ETQA.
