PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for people who are responsible for moving, packing and maintaining stock in a DC/Warehouse and maintaining safety and housekeeping standards. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is assumed that the learner has competent in:
  • Communication at ABET NQF level 4, or equivalent
  • Mathematical Literacy at ABET NQF Level 4, or equivalent

    If the learner packs stock using any form of machinery such as a forklift/conveyer belt, crane etc then he/she must meet the requirement for licensing before embarking on this unit standard.

    Identify appropriate areas for packing stock. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The positioning of stock in the DC are explained in terms of the requirements of the organisation and Health and Safety legislation 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The layout and positioning of stock in the DC is understood and explained in a diagram 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Areas for storing stock are selected as per layout/system/organisational requirements 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The relationship between reserve and pick areas is explained in terms of the maintenance and moving of stock. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Move stock to and pack stock in identified location.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Stock is moved using appropriate equipment in a manner that prevents injury to users and damage to the equipment and stock being moved.

    Packing methods are selected based on stock characteristics 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Stock is packed so that it can be accessed in the sequence required to meet stock rotation requirements 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Possible problems in respect of packing of stock in appropriate areas are explained together with ways to handle them explained according to organisational policies and procedures.

    Stock is labelled/identified as per organisational requirements.

    Prevent shrinkage and losses while moving, packing and maintaining stock.

    Ways in which shrinkage and losses occur are explained in relation to moving, packing and maintaining stock in the DC

    Shrinkage and loss prevention measures are implemented while moving, packing and maintaining stock in the DC

    The impact and functioning of the supply chain on the organisation is explained 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Misdirected and unmarked stock is identified and dealt with according to organisational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Pick areas are replenished from reserve areas within organisational timeframes and according to organisational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    All temporary holding areas are cleared according to organisational procedures and within required timeframes 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Empty packaging material is removed and stored in a designated areas in a manner which prevents damage, hazard or fire/injury 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Housekeeping standards are maintained as required by the organisation. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Programmes leading to the award of credits from this unit standard will be accredited by the SETA in its ETQA role. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the ETQA.

    Internal Moderations will be performed by the Accredited Providers whilst the ETQA will perform external moderations of assessments across the Accredited Providers according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
