PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The purpose of this Unit Standard is to enable Plumbers to install and maintain Rainwater Systems, and to fabricate sheet metal components. |

FETC NQF Level 2 literacy and numeracy competencies. |
UNIT STANDARD RANGE |
1. Materials include GMS sheet metal, solder, flux, Tinmans rivets, pop rivets, holder bats, gutter brackets, etc.
2. Patterns to be cut out using appropriate snips. 3. Setting-out lines are to be left visible. 4. Patterns and holes are to be set out according to the drawings and specifications. 5. Straight and curved cuts are to be smooth, square, straight, free of overruns, and free of file and tool marks. 6. Joints are correctly lapped, flat, tight, waterproof, and free of excess flux. 7. Rainwater systems are limited to single and multi-storey domestic and commercial buildings. 8. Gutters and pipes are fitted plumb, parallel to walls, and to minimum specified falls. 9. Rainwater goods include: pipes, gutters, stop ends, shoes, outlets, offsets, external and internal corners, hoppers (collector boxes), etc. 10. The installation of Gutters and rainwater pipes and fittings include GMS, PVC, fibre cement, and aluminium materials, and round and square sections. 11. Vent pipe flashings include the use of GMS, lead, and copper materials. |
