PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for a person who operates water and steam systems on a steam generator. A person credited with this unit standard is able to operate the above systems by preparing the plant for service, monitor the startup conditions, monitor and sustain plant and or equipment operability, stabilise transient conditions, isolate shutdown plant, preserve plant and maintain regulatory requirements. This unit standard applies to fossil fired steam generators with water and steam systems, excluding any control by means of interrelated and or integrated control systems.

Water and Steam Systems starts from feedwater supply isolation point up to and including main steam stop valves.
