In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.

This unit standard does not replace any other unit standard and is not replaced by any other unit standard.

PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
Learners who are involved in receiving, handling and storage of raw material within a continuous steel tube and pipe manufacturing process require the skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard.

Qualifying learners can receive and store raw materials required in the process as well as reflect on the receiving and storage process within a larger ferrous tubemaking production process. They will understand the importance of effective raw material receiving and storage and how this is achieved. This will include receiving, transporting and storage of raw materials, identifying non-conformances and taking corrective action.

The learning outcomes in this unit standard also contribute to the exit level outcomes required for the National Certificate in Steel Tube and Pipe Manufacturing (Seamless Hot-Finished, Welded or Cold-Formed) (NQF level 2) and related qualifications.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
It is assumed that the learner has demonstrated competency in:
  • Communication and mathematical literacy at NQF Level 1 or equivalent
  • The unit standard "Keep the work area safe and productive" ID # 13220

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE
  • The scope and level of this unit standard is determined by the ranges as indicated under the specific outcomes
  • The learner should be able to work autonomously with minimal supervision

This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
