This unit standard will be useful to people who work in the civil construction industry.
People credited with this unit standard are able to Demonstrating knowledge of pipelaying activities prepare and place Armco pipelines.

Learners who master the applied competence described in this unit standard will contribute to the development of a professional community of Civil Engineering Construction pipelaying personnel who are able to lay pipes ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety legislation and completed in accordance with specifications and industry standards.

The contribution to socio-economic transformation is that learners will be able to undergo RPL-assessment and thereby receive recognition for previous learning and experience. This in turn will enhance the employability and career prospects of learners employed in this sector.

    Personal safety equipment: Gloves, goggles, overalls, boots, mask, earplugs, helmet, torch, breathing aids, gum boots.

    Safety equipment: Barricading, signage and all other items and materials used to ensure the safety of personnel, passers-by and traffic

    Thrust blocks: Concrete; reinforced concrete; prefabricated thrust blocks.

    Manhole and chambers: Pre-constructed, re-enforced concrete constructed and brick built.
