This unit standard is for anyone who has to collate and shrink-wrap packaged products using automated equipment.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:

This unit standard can also be applied in the cosmetics, chemical, fast-moving-consumer- goods and pharmaceutical environments.

    The operating principles and shrink phases of shrink-wrapping equipment are explained according to standard packaging principles.

    The components of a shrink-wrapping machine are identified and the purpose of each component is explained according to standard packaging principles.

    Quality checks on shrink-wrapped packages are described according to standard packaging principles.

    The importance of quality checks during the shrink-wrapping process is explained according to standard packaging principles.

    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Shrink-wrap groups of packaged products for 30 minutes at an acceptable rate without defects in the shrink-wrapping film, and without product and packaging material wastage.

    Parameters for shrink-wrapping are monitored and controlled according to standard operating procedures.

    The shrink-wrapping equipment is shut down according to standard operating procedures.

    First line maintenance is performed according to standard operating procedures and within scope of work. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    First line maintenance includes:
  • Cleaning and sanitising of equipment and work area.
  • Inspection of equipment.
  • All other maintenance functions as required within the learner's scope of work.
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Records of the shrink-wrapping process are kept in accordance with standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Sub-standard shrink-wrapped parcels and unused packaging materials and product are handled according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    After shrink-wrapping, the equipment and work area are left in accordance with standard operating procedures and requirements.
