    The liberation of mineral dust is from water to the general atmosphere is explained in terms of the relevant scientific data.

    Demonstrate knowledge of the specified requirements pertaining to determining the amount of particulate matter in water.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The allowable particulate matter concentration in water is explained in terms of the effects of particulate matter on the health of persons. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The importance of taking and analysing samples to ensure a healthy environment is explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The liberation of particulate matter from water to the general atmosphere is explained. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Prepare to determine the amount of mineral dust and particulate matter in a water sample.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The required personal protective equipment is examined, operational, fit for purpose and use in accordance with its design and the importance of the examination and use is explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The apparatus is examined and calibrated and the importance thereof is explained.

    The workplace is examined and all hazards and risks are dealt with.

    The sample residue is dealt with accordingly.
