PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Forming and shaping flat sheet using hand or power operated machinery.

The skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard are required by people in the field of engineering fabrication, which includes boilermaking, sheetmetal working, welding and vehicle body building. The learning outcomes in this unit standard contribute to the exit level outcomes required for the National Certificate in Fabrication (NQF level 2) and related qualifications. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
This unit standard has been designed as part of a progression. It is one of a series of unit standards for forming and shaping metals in the fabrication field.

The credits allocated to this unit standard assume that a learner has already learned to draw and interpret simple engineering drawings, to select, use and care for engineering hand and power tools and to select, use and care for engineering measuring equipment. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE

The scope and level of this unit standard is determined by the ranges as indicated under the specific outcomes. Work is performed under supervision. Forming includes cold forming and use of standard power operated machinery.
