PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for people in a production forest planting situation.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Prepare for planting.
  • Plant plantation trees. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Communication and Mathematical Literacy at ABET Level 3. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Demonstration of competence will take place "on the job" in a production situation during planting season.
  • Work is performed with minimal supervision.
  • All work practices must meet recognized codes of practices and documented worksite health and safety and environment procedures, and must meet the obligations required under the current legislation.

    Forest industry job prescription is used to establish target, quality and specific job requirements.

    Unsuitable planting stock is discarded.

    Spacing, stocking and quality requirements are met according to job description.

    Stocking rate is determined using an industry assessment method. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    Work rate meets pre-determined production target for operation.
