PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • demonstrate knowledge of change overs in a production or packaging environment,
  • prepare for equipment change overs on a production or packaging equipment,
  • perform a change over procedure in a production or packaging environment,
  • manage end-of-change over procedures.

    This unit standard is for anyone who works in a production or packaging environment and needs to perform change over procedures on production or packaging equipment.

    Range: Perform a running and stop production change over.

    This unit will contribute to the full development of the learner within the manufacturing and packaging environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of manufacturing and assembly. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the manufacturing and processing environment. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Description of required skills:

    Understanding of and use the number system.
    Measure, estimate and calculate physical quantities and explore, describe and represent geometrical relations in 2-dimenions in different life or work place contexts.

    Performing basic maintenance and lubrication procedures on production or packaging equipment. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The scope and context of this unit standard is for anyone who works in a production or packaging environment and needs to perform change over procedures on production or packaging equipment.

    The level assigned to this unit standard is appropriate because the process is moderate in range, established and familiar and offers clear choices of routine responses. The learning demand employs basic operational knowledge and readily available information. The application of this unit standard is to qualify the person for certification in sub-trades.

    Standard operating procedures:
    Refer to company procedures, prescribed procedures from the manufacturer, personal and safety procedures, good manufacturing practices, best practices, applicable legislation, time frames, recipes and specifications.

    Product safety:
    Refers to all practices and procedures that will ensure that products are safe for consumption or usage as determined by legislation and original objective. These practices and procedures are applied from raw product receiving, handling and sorting until the final product is manufactured, stored and sold to the consumer.

    Stop production change over:
    Refer to stop product or line or packaging size change overs.
