PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to access and interpret information on stock record-keeping systems, analyse and monitor stock movement, initiate and control stock counts and record details on record-keeping systems in order to maintain and update stock balances.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Complying with organisational storekeeping standard operating procedures.
  • Accessing and interpreting information on the stock management system.
  • Solving stock related irregularities.
  • Initiating and controlling stock counts. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners accessing this unit standard are competent in:
  • Computer Literacy at NQF Level 4 or its equivalent.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4 or its equivalent.
  • Communication at NQF level 4 or its equivalent. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    Stock will include but not limited to goods, stock, materials, stock pile, supply and reserve stock.

    Comply with organisational storekeeping standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The organisations standard operating procedures with regard to storekeeping are explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The organisations standard operating procedures are analysed in written report with regard to the efficiency and effectiveness of the procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The organisations storekeeping standard operating procedures are complied with by providing relevant evidence of storekeeping activities instituted. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Access and interpret information on the stock management system. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Stock management system could be either manual or computerised. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Data applicable to the stock management system is identified and the purpose of each set of data explained in terms of the physical activity that took place. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The recording of stock movement on the stock management system is explained in terms of the organisation's policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Stock movement on the system is analysed and explained in terms of the physical movement of stock that has/must take place. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Solve stock related irregularities. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Irregularities include stock not where it is expected to be, stock found in an incorrect location, incorrect stock, redundant stock, and damaged stock. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Irregularities in stock movement are identified and investigated according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Reported irregularities are investigated according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Action applicable to the irregularity is identified and initiated according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The necessary physical and/or theoretical corrections are initiated in accordance with standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Redundant stock is recorded according to standard operating procedures.

    Initiate and control stock counts.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Stock to be counted is identified from stock lists and counts initiated according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Counting by others is monitored to ensure accuracy and completion within specified timeframes. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Balances are updated according to latest counts in accordance to standard operating procedures.
