PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to manage the performance of various maintenance resources and equipment in order to determine their effectiveness and therefore be able to make decisions based on this information.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Analysing and processing overall maintenance costs.
  • Processing and evaluating safety and environmental performance in a maintenance division.
  • Establishing and verifying maintenance personnel and contractor efficiencies.
  • Processing optimum utilisation of spares and materials.
  • Controlling and processing appropriate scheduling and prioritising of maintenance workload.
  • Working out and controlling optimum and cost-effective utilisation of equipment.

    It is assumed that learners accessing this unit standard are competent in:
  • Computer Literacy at NQF Level 4 or its equivalent.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4 or its equivalent.
  • Communication at NQF level 4 or its equivalent.

    The scope of this unit standard is for a person working in any maintenance environment who needs to monitor, control and process performance measurement activities.

    Ratio of contractor is against organisational employees is established to determine efficiency levels in line with organisational productivity measuring tools.

    Ratio of maintenance employees per supervisor is determined and documented in organisational standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Percentages of overtime hours and absenteeism is determined documented and reported in accordance with organisational requirements.

    Monitor optimum utilisation of spares and materials.

    Inventory turnover, accuracy levels and service levels are determined and documented in accordance with organisational requirements.

    Percentage downtime due to stock out is established and documented in accordance with organisational requirements.

    Material costs versus labour cost is determined, documented and reported to the relevant authorised individual.

    Dormant stock and material and stock figures are determined and reported according to standard operating procedures.

    Monitor appropriate scheduling and prioritising of maintenance workload.

    Work orders/requests lead times are established, prioritised and communicated in accordance with the organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Workload and backlog levels are listed according to craft, priority and type in written format. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Man hours per work order request are estimated for scheduling the work load in written format. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    A percentage of the work completed on the work schedule is determined by analysing work orders signed off against work orders not sighed off and is reported in written format in accordance with organisational requirements and stipulated time frames.

    A percentage emergency, corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance of total maintenance activity is determined and documented in the prescribed format.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Availability, reliability and maintainability of equipment is determined in order to establish overall equipment effectiveness utilising equipment records and is to be documented in accordance to organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Mean time between failures is determined to determine utilising equipment records. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Total costs for each piece of equipment is determined cost effective utilisation by documenting all costs in accordance with orgnisational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Return on investment (ROI) for equipment is calculated by analysing the optimum utilisation of the equipment utilising appropriate cost accounting calculations.
