A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Understand the operation of the high density fibre press.
  • Strap compressed wool and mohair bales.
  • Understand the importance of reducing the wool and mohair bale volumes for stowage and shipping.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance checks on the high density fibre press.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Demonstrate an understanding of safety procedures during the compression of wool and mohair bales.

    The range includes but is not limited to:

    PPE (Personal protective equipment), PPC (Personal Protective Clothing), housekeeping, safety standard operating procedures, emergency stops, noise levels, obey signage, access zones. High density fibre press (HDFP).

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The reasons for wearing the correct Personal Protective Clothing during the compression of wool and mohair bales are explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The correct uses of Personal Protective Equipment during the compression of wool and mohair bales are described. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The safe use of bale handling and strapping tools during the compression of wool and mohair bales is explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The identification and explanation of the specific safety signage for the HDFP are demonstrated.

    The importance of keeping within the access zones of the HDFP is explained.

    The standard operating procedures in the pressing of wool and mohair bales are reviewed.

    The various contamination risks in the pressing area are identified.
