PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit standard is for people wishing to demonstrate knowledge of the patterned nature of numbers and the relationships between numbers. People credited with this unit standard are able to determine the multiples and factors of numbers, classify numbers as even, odd and/or prime and identify and extend numerical patterns.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
'Demonstrate and apply understanding of the number system'.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE
Patterns and relationships include multiples, factors, even numbers, odd numbers and prime numbers.
Patterns are based on any combinations of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication of numbers.

Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria:

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1
Determine the multiples and factors of numbers.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
1. Multiples are correct.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
2. All possible factors are identified.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2
Classify numbers as even, odd and/or prime.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
1. Even and odd numbers are distinguished from one another and named correctly.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
2. Prime numbers are correctly identified from a selection of numbers or correctly determined within a range of numbers.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3
Identify and extend numerical patterns.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
1. The pattern is correctly described in terms of the relationships between numbers and remains consistent throughout the pattern.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
2. Completed patterns are internally consistent.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
3. Numbers are correctly sequenced according to size or identified patterns.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
4. The language of comparison is used where appropriate and demonstrates the relationship between numbers.
ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Including: more than, less than, bigger, smaller, the same as, equal to, nearly, fewer, least, different.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS
Evaluation of documentation and visit by SAQA or ETQA expert in the field of mathematics education.

Moderation:
According to system devised by the NSB.

UNIT STANDARD ESSENTIAL EMBEDDED KNOWLEDGE
Embedded knowledge is addressed as part of assessment criteria.

Critical Cross-field Outcomes (CCFO):

UNIT STANDARD CCFO COMMUNICATING

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS UNIT STANDARD:
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
