| PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
| This unit standard is for people working as entry level environmental educators, environmental health and safety officers or as interns in contexts in which they are required to address environmental issues or risks, e.g. environmental education centres, community-based projects, local government or industry.
People credited with this unit standard will be able to work with more experienced and/or qualified colleagues to identify, analyse and take action to address a local environmental issue or risk. People credited with this unit standard will have achieved the following specific outcomes: |
| LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
| The learner should demonstrate GETC or equivalent. This unit standard does not assume that the learner has prior environmental education training or experience. However, it does assume a willingness and ability to work with others to address a local environmental issue or risk.
This unit standard should ideally be undertaken at the same time as unit standard EE 4.05 Network locally and nationally in order to source information, advice or support concerning an environmental issue or risk. Networking is essential to effective environmental action, while this unit standard (EE 4.03) provides a context in which the information obtained through networking may be used. |

| At this level, the learner will work under supervision of, or in collaboration with, more experienced and/or qualified colleagues. The unit standard encourages the learner to gain experience of addressing environmental issues and risks by working with and assisting more experienced and / or qualified colleagues or community members.
The issue or risk identified should be relatively small-scale and within the scope of the group and the learner to address meaningfully (e.g. in terms of time and resources available, political influence and institutional support). |
