PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard forms part of the Qualification, National Certificate in Funeral Services Practice and is registered at Level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework. Learners working towards this standard will be learning towards the full qualification, or will be involved in or working within a funeral services environment, specialising in Merchandising and Marketing, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to each individual and the Funeral Industry as a whole.


The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Evaluating funeral merchandise and service displays
  • Marking and label funeral merchandise
  • Monitoring housekeeping standards 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competency in:
  • Numeracy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.
  • English, verbal and written communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

    Evaluate funeral merchandise and service displays 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1.Funeral merchandise and service displays are checked to ensure merchandise is placed in prime positions. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Prime positions will include well lit areas, high traffic flow, counter areas, window displays, display shelves, display rooms, eye level positions.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2.Merchandise displays are open and allow client to examine it. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3.Merchandise and service displays are in accordance with plans, organisational requirements and for safety of clients and employees. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Safety of merchandise includes stability, openness, freedom from hazards, not dangerous sharp points/edges.

    Mark and label funeral merchandise

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1.Surfaces, fixtures and fittings are inspected to ensure they are free from dust and are clean. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2.Storeroom is inspected and housekeeping standards assessed. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3.Deviations in housekeeping standards highlighted and remedial action taken. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4.Disruption to clients due to maintenance of funeral business is minimised.

    Providers offering learning towards this standard will be accredited and assessors registered by the relevant Education Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA).
