PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard provides a broad introduction to the planning and preparing of drawing layouts. It is the starting point for a learner in this sector. The focus is knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in relation to the learner`s own context and experience of the world of work.


The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Verifying the interpretation of job requirements
  • Determining the drawing requirements
  • Preparing to produce the drawing
  • Preparing the computer environment for using computer aided drawing software

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in mathematics, engineering science and technical drawing at NQF level 4 or equivalent.
  • Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in computer technology at Level 3 on the NQF or equivalent.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Drawing medium will include software packages.
  • Draughting will include general draughting, mechanical draughting, architectural / civil draughting, structural steel detailing, electrical draughting, piping and instrumentation draughting
  • Superfluous information will include unnecessary elaboration, repetitive details, repetitive dimensions, excessive views and unnecessary detail
