PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard provides a broad introduction to the background of drawing as well as the identification and description of drawing office layouts and equipment. It is the starting point for a learner in this sector. The focus is knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in relation to the learner`s own context and experience of the world of work.


The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Explaining the history and development of drawing.
  • Identifying and describing drawing office layout and equipment.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in mathematics, engineering science and technical drawing at NQF level 4 or equivalent.
  • Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in computer technology at Level 4 on the NQF or equivalent.

  • Drawing office layout will include lighting, specific power supply requirements, space and drawing methods.
  • Drawing reproduction processes will include blueprint, diazo, electrostatic, photographic and microfilming.
  • Drawing paper will include opaque, translucent and transparent.
  • Polyester drawing film will include white, opaque, translucent and transparent.
