PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
The purpose of this unit standard is to enable learners to manufacture and construct site-made (bolted) trusses for roofing, in line with safety legislation, and National Building Regulations and requirements, and based on specification drawings. The role of safety is crucial, and understanding the implications of design modifications and industry convention to deal with practical challenges are important factors when attaining the outcomes of this unit standard. Learners mostly apply competence under supervision of a team leader.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS
Accreditation Process and Moderation

Assessment of learner achievements takes place at providers accredited by CETA (RSA, 1998b) for the provision of programs that result in the outcomes specified for the National Certificate for Timber Roof Erecting. CETA is responsible for moderation of learner achievements of learners who meet the requirements of this unit standard. Those assessing the outcomes of this unit standard should be qualified assessors, registered with CETA for assessment of the qualification.
