PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for managers of organisations and learners who manage risk in insurance and other organisations.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Explaining the principles of incident escalation as they relate to business interruption.
  • Applying the risk management process to manage business interruption risk.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding the principles of graduated response.
  • Planning the resumption of business operations.

    2. The factors and effects that distinguish a major incident are explained in terms of business interruption.

    3. The factors and effects that distinguish an emergency are explained in terms of business interruption.

    4. The factors and effects that distinguish a crisis are explained in terms of business interruption.

    Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of graduated response.

    1. The principles of graduated response are explained with reference to three different emergency situations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The principles of incident escalation and graduated response are aligned to ensure appropriate response to the severity of the incident for two case studies. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. A response action plan to minimise the adverse consequences of business interruption is compiled for a specific operation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Procedure documents to support the plan are compiled for a specific operation and aligned to the action plan. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Plan the resumption of business operations.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Resources required to resume business are identified with reference to equipment, finance, materials and person power. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Plans to access and acquire the necessary resources are compiled for three case studies. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. An action plan is proposed to limit business interruption risk for three different scenarios. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be obtained from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance Body, through summative and formative assessment by a registered assessor.
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the INSQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the INSQA
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with INSQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Agreement with INSQA.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the relevant ETQA.

    Moderation should include both internal and external moderation where applicable.
