PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for learners who manage asset risk in insurance and other organisations.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying environmental principles and legislation that impact on risk management.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the National Environment Management Act (NEMA) as it applies to risk management.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the Environment Conservation Act as it impacts on risk management.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the National Water Act as it impacts on risk management.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to Air Quality Management as it impacts on risk management.
  • Applying the risk management process to a specific situation in order to manage environmental risk.

    2. The Constitutional basis for environmental legislation is explained and an indication is given of the aspects of the environment that are protected by implication. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. Overarching environmental principles based on international treaties are explained with reference to the principles of polluter pay, sustainable development, integrated environmental management, access to environmental information and environmental impact assessment.

    2. The penalties for non-compliance are explained with reference to Air Quality Management legislation and extension of liability under NEMA.

    3. The ways in which two different types of emission should be monitored are explained with reference to current legislation.

    Apply the risk management process to a specific situation in order to manage environmental risk.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be obtained from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance Body, through summative and formative assessment by a registered assessor.
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the INSQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the INSQA.
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with INSQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Agreement with INSQA.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the relevant ETQA.

    Moderation should include both internal and external moderation where applicable.
