PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for managers of organisations and learners who manage asset risk in insurance and other organisations.

The qualifying learner is capable of:

  • Recommending theft prevention measures for a specific vehicle.
  • Recommending anti hijacking measures appropriate to the organisation managing the loss.
  • Recommending a comprehensive risk control system for an organisation.

    1. Risk related to specific motor vehicles is explained with reference to the purpose for which the vehicle is used and the type of vehicle. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The need for an organisation to build a statistical database on motor vehicle losses is explained as a means of facilitating underwriting and claims decisions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. Historical data is interpreted to determine the level of risk associated with three specific vehicles with reference to model, value, use and area. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Potential for theft or hijacking is analysed for three specific vehicles and presented in a matrix.

    5. Statistics relating to theft prevention systems are interpreted for three specific vehicles and a decision is made as to whether further preventative measures are required for each vehicle.

    2. The difference between factory-fitted or after market security systems is explained with examples of when it may be necessary to add security systems. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The risk associated with security systems is explained in terms of installation and quality control.

    Recommend anti hijacking measures appropriate to the organisation managing the loss.

    1. Systems available to prevent hijacking are named and an explanation is given of how they operate and the effectiveness of each.

    2. The difference between fleet management and vehicle recovery is explained with reference to the operation, kind of equipment used and the result.

    3. The role of fleet management systems is explained in the case of hijacking or theft.

    4. Anti hijacking measures are recommended that are appropriate for the organisation managing the loss.

    3. The recommendations are presented to the organisation in writing.

    Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be obtained from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance Body, through summative and formative assessment by a registered assessor.
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the INSQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the INSQA.
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with INSQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Agreement with INSQA.
