PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
People in the field of manufacturing and engineering require the skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard. The learning outcomes in this unit standard also contribute to the exit level outcomes required for various manufacturing and engineering qualifications. The learner is capable of identify and dismantle components that need to be inspected and evaluated by a competent person and know how to process the ordering of new parts. This will contribute to the exit level outcomes required for the National Certificate in servicing vehicles and related qualification. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
This unit standard has been designed as part of a progression. It is one of a series of unit standards for servicing vehicles in the field of manufacturing and engineering. It is assumed that the learner has already learned the use of engineering hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment and to maintain a safe and productive working environment.

All work is performed under the supervision and according to workplace and workshop manual specifications and occupational safety, health and environmental legislation.
