PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will enable managers within the safety and security environment to improve professionalism and enhance the quality of service delivery.

The achievement of this unit standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the safety in society environment and more specifically within the policing discipline by promoting recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are vital for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the safety is society environment.

A learner acquiring this unit standard will be able to manage crime investigation processes.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The range covers the role and purpose of police management in the context of safety in the South African society. The range includes practice and culture of safety in society particularly within the policing discipline, the regulatory framework, the main activities of police management, among stakeholders in and outside South Africa.

    Serious crime scenes are analysed in order to provide guidance in accordance with legal prescripts.

    Arrest procedures are evaluated in order to ensure that they reflect the implementation of organisational policies.

    Recruitment and maintenance procedures and processes are analysed in order to manage an informer network.

    Dockets are inspected to determine whether they reflect proper investigation, preparation for trial or whether they should be disposed of.

    The investigation service activities are analysed to ensure alignment with the requirements of the organisational record keeping system.

    Crime related information is analysed in order to provide guidance to the investigation processes and for information sharing purposes.

    The progress of investigations and operations is examined making use of compilation of reports.
