The person credited with this unit standard will be able to understand the use of x-ray screening equipment within a security environment. They will also be able to use this type of equipment within the given security context and interpret the information gained for security related purposes.

    Describe the x-ray screening process within the security environment.

    Screening personnel are identified in terms of their responsibilities. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Screening personnel includes but is not limited to: X-ray operator, Screener, Loader Searcher.

    The purpose of x-ray screening within a security context is explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Screening equipment is described in terms of its uses and operating principles. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The safety features of the screening equipment are described to inform utilisation. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Safety features: include but are not limited to: Controls, Keypads, Health and safety compliance, Radiation exposure, Safety procedures.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Demonstrate screening techniques using x-ray screening equipment in a given situation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The use of X-ray screening techniques is demonstrated within a given situation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Colour imaging techniques are demonstrated within a given situation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The X-ray image is interpreted in order to identify possible prohibited items. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Identify safety and security threats using x-ray screening equipment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Prohibited items are identified in order to ascertain whether they pose a security threat or risk. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Prohibited items may include but not limited to: firearms, ammunition, knives, explosives, Illegal substances and goods, dangerous substances or goods.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The consequences of not identifying prohibited items are explained with examples.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or assessing this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
