PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for people who work in the public sector. People credited with this Unit Standard are able to explain the main roles and responsibilities of the national government in South Africa and to explain how their work roles and accountabilities contribute to the fulfilment of these roles and responsibilities.

The qualified learner is capable of:
  • Describing the main objectives of the Constitution of South Africa in terms of its implications for national government.
  • Defining the different elements of national government.
  • Demonstrating how own work roles and accountabilities contribute to the achievement of the roles and functions of national government.
  • Explaining the main challenges facing national government in one field of government and how national government is responding.

    The main roles of national government in terms of the Constitution are explained to make clear where the responsibilities of national government begin and end.

    The roles and composition of the national legislatures in relation to constitutional objectives are understood and described.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be obtained from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance Body, through summative and formative assessment by a registered assessor.
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Agreement with the relevant ETQA.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the relevant ETQA.

    Moderation should include both internal and external moderation where applicable.
