PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard will be able to co-ordinate the express process of moving small to medium sized consignments within strict time parameters. They are able to bag and label consignments and lodge courier material with the required agents.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Establishing appropriate routing for a consignment.
  • Selecting and completing correct documentation for consignments.
  • Bagging and labeling consolidation of consignments.
  • Lodging courier material with third party carriers and agents. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Establish appropriate routing for a consignment. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Cognizance must be taken of modes of transport, services, costs, description of goods and special instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The mode of transport is selected based on service requirements, final destination, special instructions and description of goods. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Dangerous and hazardous goods are recognised in accordance with the International Dangerous goods code. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Weight breaks are analysed in order to maximise load capacity for transportation. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Select and complete correct documentation for consignments. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Correct documentation for consignments will include but not limited to RAF, IATA, Hazmat.

    Documentation is collated in accordance with organisational procedure to ensure movement of express consignments. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Documentation is completed in required format and in accordance with company procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Documentation for consignments is sourced according to organisational requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Bag and label consolidation of consignment.

    Shipments for movements are processed within the organisation's system. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Consignment is bagged in accordance with organisation's system.

    Consignment is labeled in accordance with organisational requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Lodge courier material with third party carriers and agents. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Third party carriers and agents will include but not limited to airlines, shipping agents, courier brokers, airport handlers and transport couriers.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Courier material is lodged with third party carriers in accordance with third party carriers and agents requirements and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Carrier specific documentation is completed according to organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Arrangements are made for collection and delivery of consolidated consignments in accordance with deadlines.
