PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to handle and load dangerous goods for transportation by air. They will be able to accept and store dangerous goods in preparation for transportation, as well as inspect the goods prior to transportation. Learners are also able to communicate information regarding the goods to role players effectively.

A person credited with this unit standard is capable of:
  • Accepting and storing dangerous goods for transportation by air.
  • Loading/off-loading and securing dangerous goods for transportation by air.
  • Inspecting dangerous goods for transportation by air.
  • Providing information to relevant role-players. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.

    Packages and unit load devices are inspected according to international codes and regulations and according to organisational polices and procedures to identify leakages and damages. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Spillage and leakage are reported according to international codes and regulations.

    Special handling instructions are identified and described as it relates to the International Civil Aviation Organisation regulations.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The handling and loading/off-loading of packages containing liquid dangerous goods are identified and described as it relates to the International Civil Aviation Organisation regulations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    General loading/of-loading and securing requirements are identified, described and applied as it relates to the International Civil Aviation Organisation regulations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Unit load devices containing dangerous goods are explained and described according to the International Civil Aviation Organisation regulations.
